Ocho Rios is a great place to visit; with plenty of activities and attractions, it is also safe. However, did you know it’s also home to some stunning beaches? If you’re looking for a beach to relax on during your stay in Ocho Rios, here are seven excellent options worth checking out.

Turtle Beach in Ocho Rios is known for its clear turquoise waters and lovely white sand beaches. It’s a great place to relax and soak up the Jamaican sun. There is an entrance fee of $5 for adults and $3 for children.

It is public and accessible to everyone, and beach chairs are for rent at a minimal cost. It is perfect if you want somewhere to chill or engage in water sports. However, it is not the most romantic setting.

It is close to the cruise ship pier, along a strip populated with hotels and apartments, so there is nothing natural to see.

You are within walking distance from the Moon Palace resort, Fisherman Point apartments, and Margarita Vil.

Restaurants and public transportation are easily accessible, so you dont have to drive or hire a taxi.

Turtle Beach

Ocho Rios is one of Jamaica’s most popular tourist destinations, and for a good reason. The island is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. One of the most popular beaches in Ocho Rios is Dolphin Cove Beach.

The cost for entry into the park is 65 USD for adults and 45 USD for children; included in the payment is food. Unfortunately, getting your photo with the dolphin will cost you, and they do not allow you to record the experience.

Dolphin Cove is open at 9 am each day, depending on if a cruise ship is docking.

Once inside, visitors can expect to see various marine life, including dolphins, stingrays, sharks, and more. In addition, visitors can do several activities at the park, such as swimming with the dolphins, feeding them, or going on a glass bottom boat tour, waterslide, and petting parrots and iguanas.

This beach is perfect for those who want to experience something truly unique.

Dolphin Cove is not for everyone; some oppose its existence. They think it unethical to have mammals captive for human entertainment. Furthermore, the concentration of waste they produce harms marine life in their environment.

Here is an interesting view from a local blogger on why she will not swim with dolphins at Dolphine cove.

Dunn’s River Beach is in Ocho Rios on Jamaica’s north coast. The beach gets its name from Dunn’s River Falls, which flow offshore into the sea.

It is one of Jamaica’s most popular tourist destinations and is known for its clear waters and white sand beach. Dunn’s River Beach visitors can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling.

There are also several restaurants and bars on the beach, making it a great place to relax and take in the Caribbean atmosphere. Although most people to Dunn’s River do not go there for the beach, it is one of the best beaches in Ocho Rios. The fall in the backdrop makes it the perfect place for your island poster.

The entry cost of $1500 for locals and USD 25 for visitors covers access to the beach and waterfall.

Dunn’s River Beach

James Bond Beach is a popular tourist attraction in Jamaica. Though it is in Oracabesa, Saint Mary, like Ian Flemming International Airport, visitors believe it is in Ocho Rios because of Its proximity and Ochi’s popularity with tourists.

The beach was featured in the film Dr. No and has been a destination for James Bond fans ever since.

The entry cost is $10 per person, and the experience is well worth the price.

The water is crystal clear, and the sand is white and powdery. The beach also has umbrellas, lounge chairs, and a snack bar. James Bond Beach is a must-visit for any fan of the franchise.

James Bond Beach

Laughing Waters Beach is probably the most stunning beach in Jamaica for its combination of gurgling falls and fine, golden sand.

This famous spot became popular when Ursula Andress emerged from the water singing during her scene with James Bond, played by Sean Connery.

Laughing water property is not open to the public but is available for rent for weddings and cooperative events. This gives you access to the beach and the fall nearby—rental costs upwards of 1000 USD for the day. In addition, there is a guest house on the property that is also available for rent.

Although the property is not open to the public, locals park along the highway on a broad shoulder west of the JPS substation. Then make their way along a trail that leads to the Roaring River, right where the river meets the sea.

Pearly Beach is a small, secluded beach located in the town of Ocho Rios on Jamaica’s north coast. It is one of the most beautiful and relaxing beaches on the island.

The beach is well-maintained, with plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas. Food and drink options are limited, but a small bar serves cocktails and snacks. Pearly Beach is perfect for relaxing and soaking up the Jamaican sun.

The Urban Development Cooperation of Jamaica (UDC) operates Pearly Beach in Ocho Rios through its Saint Anns subsidiary.

While it is open to the public, they only cater to groups with a minimum of 75 people and charge 10 USD. An individual cannot pay an entry fee and walk onto the property; you have to be a part of a group.

It hosts parties on weekends and holidays and is usually responsible for traffic congestion.

Puerto secco Beach is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Jamaica. It is in Discovery Bay, about 20 mins outside Ocho Rios, on the island’s north coast.

It is well known for its white sand beaches, clear blue waters, and lush vegetation. Several restaurants and bars in the area, as well as several shops and boutiques.

Puerto secco Beach is also a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling.

It costs 1000Jm for adults and 500JM for children to enter.

The food at Puerto Secco Beach is reasonably priced, with various Jamaican and international dishes. In addition, the bars have different local and imported beers, wines, and spirits.

There are also several activities to keep visitors entertained, such as volleyball and a floating obstacle course.

These are just seven of the fantastic beaches Ocho Rios offers. So, what are you waiting for?

Bob Marley Beach in Bull Bay, Saint Andrew, is not your typical tourist attraction. There is no white sand beach, lifeguard, security, or guide—just a beautiful dark sand beach with minimal human interference.

Although well-known because of its association with a famous musician, it is not developed nor flocked by tourists. Instead, only locals, true Bob Marley fans, and die-hearted adventurers experiencing the unfiltered Jamaican culture go there.

Located in the eastern part of the island might have played a role in its underdevelopment. The tourism hub is on the south coast, and travelers are warned not to leave the confines of their all-inclusive resort, so they dont get to experience these parts of the island.

View of Bob Marley Beach from the Mountain

On Google Maps, Bob Marley beach is in Saint Thomas, but the entrance is in Bull Bay Saint Andrew. Since it is at the border between the two parishes and Bull Bay is the closest community to the beach, people will tell you that it is in Bull Bay.

Getting there

It will take you about 30 minutes to get there from downtown Kingston. Google Maps works perfectly and will direct you to your destination.

But if you dont have access to Google, here is a guide.

Easy Guide to Bob Marley Beach

From Kingston, take the Sir Floizel Glasspole Highway. You will pass Harbourview and head to Bull Bay. Make the right turn after passing the Bull Bay Police Station. The entrance is directly across from the Bull Bay Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witness Church.

A sign on the wall says Welcome to Bob Marley Beach. No, it’s not fake; you are on the correct path. The underdeveloped road is confirmation.

Pass a few houses and cross a bridge; then, you will see an official-looking sign welcoming you to the beach and warning that there are no lifeguards and the current is strong, so swim at your own risk.

Bob Marley Beach Entry

You might not get to the beach if you are easily scared or believe some Jamaican stereotypes.

The underdeveloped roads, zinc fences, graffiti, and run-down houses are the things that stood out. These are generally associated with violent inner-city communities, but this area section of Bull Bay does not have that reputation.

On my first trip, I thought Google Maps was tricking me again because it tends to give incorrect information when traveling in rural areas. However, that was not the case. The Rastafarian theme artwork and the sight of the shore confirmed I was on the right path.

Soon after, we crossed the bridge; a proper sign appeared; this put all doubt aside.

Being a local who knows the culture seeing men hanging out on the narrow road smoking was not intimidating. Because I know this is typical in some communities, especially on weekends or holidays.

However, someone from a different culture with preconceived notions about the island might view things differently.

I have known about Bob Marley beach for a long time, but it was never on my list. However, after writing a post on Bob Marley Museum, I was compelled to visit some of his stomping grounds.

Bob Marley Beach was the first stop.

After getting over the initial disappointment of the unpleasant entry and poor infrastructure, I was amazed by what I saw.

I felt like a step back in time before our best attracts were scared by artificial structures and commercialized.

There is a long stretch of beautiful dark sand beach tall mountain standing in the backdrop of waves crashing ashore with no people. It is comparable to Negril seven mile beach in a different color before mass tourism.

The board structure close to the beach was hardly noticeable and gave an isolated island vibe. Few fishing boats on the shore, some m

A few shacks made from ticks and material sourced from nature and some wooden benches are the perfect spot to lounge and have a cold drink.

I could walk the stretch from saint Andrew to Saint Thomas for hours just gazing at the waves.

The rough sand on sections of the beach makes walking barefoot uncomfortable, but being close to the water is more pleasant.

I am not a strong swimmer, so taking pictures to capture this place’s beauty was good enough.

Bob Marley beach would be the perfect backdrop for a romantic movie like French Man’s Cove Beach in Portland.

The openness and isolation of Bob Marley beach are perfect if you are like me. Unfortunately, for those wanting more, nothing much there to do. However, you can be creative and create your fun. Here are some of my suggestions.

  1. Go for a swim. Go for a swim; however, be careful because there are strong currents and no lifeguard on duty.
  2. Take a long romantic walk on the beach. The long stretch of beach with the mountains as its backdrop is perfect for couples to enjoy each other company.
  3. Relax and have a drink with friends. This isolated beach is a great place to link up with friends for some beers. Advice to take your beverage, but can you grab a few from a couple of shops nearby.
  4. Picnic on the beach. A picnic on the beach is another excellent idea. Its isolation provides some level of privacy. You could quickly disappear from peering eyes and enjoy a lovely picnic with someone special.
  5. Watch the sunset over Kingston Harbour. Watching the sunset from that section of the island is another great idea.
  6. Meditate Bob Marley beach is the perfect place for meditation, far from the city noise and people, only the crashing sounds of waves hitting the coastline.

Bob Marley Beach

Safety is always a concern for people easily on an island with a bad reputation. Fortunately, the community around Bob Marley beach has a Rastafarian influence. Also, it is close to a parish not known for its high crime rate.

However, it is an isolated area; therefore, anything can happen. So it is best to travel with a company. Night beach is a fun experience, but I wouldn’t recommend staying after dark.

There are no lights on the road, and they narrow a bad. So you could easily make a wrong turn.

Like anywhere else on the island, use common sense to be aware of your surroundings and prepare to leave if you feel uncomfortable.

A great view of the sunset at Bob Marley Beach

Bob Marley Beach In Saint Andrew is not for everyone. However, nature lovers, Bob Marley fans, and people who cherish isolation will love it. It is not the typical white sand beach show in a tourism magazine. However, it is just as beautiful, although different.

It is easy to find using Google Maps or the guide in this post. Take water shoes if you plan to walk along the beach because some sections have rough sand. Dont go alone, travel with company, it is isolated, so it’s good to have help nearby if there are any problems.

If you are looking for a breathtaking beach to relax on while in Jamaica, look no further than Puerto Seco Beach. This secluded beach is located in Discovery Bay and offers stunning views of the Caribbean Sea. You can expect crystal-clear water, soft white sand, and plenty of palm trees.

Cost For Entry

It costs Jm$1000 for children from 5 to 11 years and Jm$2000 for persons over 12 years to enter Puerto Seco Beach.

There are many activities at Puerto Seco Beach; you can swim in the pool, play at the floating water park, go snorkeling, swim with dolphins, get a spa treatment, or just lounge in a private cabana.

View of the beach from the shades

You are not allowed to take outside food on the property, so you will have to purchase from thier restaurant. They have several Jamaican foods, such as rice and peace, jerk chicken and pork festival, and more. If you are travel with a group, you can use their catering service however you will have to book them in advance.

They serve liquor on the property if you want to chill, drink, and watch the waves. There are two bars; one does regular beverages, while the other upstairs sells premium liquor. The view from upstairs is fantastic.

Section of the bar

The best time to go to Puerto Seco beach depends on what you want to experience. If you want a relaxing day with a few people, go on a non-cruise ship day and avoid the weekend—cruise ships usually dock at Ocho Rios on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

The holiday weekends are hectic period because a lot of locals are out.

The afternoon is an excellent time to go. Most tours have already felt in late afternoons from four to five, and many people are on their way.

Puerto Seco opens at 8:30 am and closes at 5 pm, so keep that in mind when planning your visit.

The Beach

The Green Grotto Caves

Runaway Bay Golf Club

Dunn’s River Falls

Dolphin Cove Jamaica

Mystic Mountain Jamaica

All of these attractions are within a short driving distance from Puerto Seco Beach, so you won’t have to go far to find something fun to do.

There are several resorts close to Puerto Seco beach. It is about thirty minutes from Ocho Rios town, which has several resorts. Bahia Principe, Frankly D Rose resorts, and Jewels Paradise Cove are the nearest. Here are some more family resorts in Ocho Rios.

Puerto Seco Beach is less than 30 minutes from Ocho Rios Town, 1 1/2 hours from Kingston, 1 hour from Montego Bay, and 2 hours from Negril.

Guardsman Hospitality, a Guardsman Group of Companies subsidiary, owns and operates Puerto Seco Beach. They started development in 2016 to turn it into a one-of-a-kind attraction on the island. Other attractions in thier group are Konko Falls in Saint Anns and the Hope Zoo in Kingston.

The History

The written history of Puerto Seco starts with Christoper Columbus; it was the first port he saw when he landed in jamaica. From there, he found other rivers in Saint Ann.

I dont know what the indigenous people called it before the invasion. Since Green Gratto Caves is nearby and an important place to the Tainos, Puerto Seco might have also been since fishing was vital to them.

Kaiser bauxite company owned PuertoSeco up to 2015; it was a public access beach.

Surrounded by much controversy Guardsman Hospitality took ownership and started development in 2016. Puerto Seco opened to the public in 2017.

View of Puerto Seco Beach entrance

The attendant greeted our group, and those who wanted to go the obstacle course signed the waiver form, and we were on our way.

Security checks our bags for food because you cannot take food on the property. I thought this was a bit extreme, but I understand.

Puerto Secco’s lawn and garden are impressive, comparable to a five resort on the island. The manicured grounds and the tall palm trees make the perfect backdrop for a romantic movie.

Several people stop to take the perfect picture for social media.

Everything was well laid out; the place was open and not crammed. The bars and restaurant had adequate seating to cater to large groups.

There were enough beach chairs and umbrellas; it seemed as if there was one for everybody.

The bathrooms were spacious and clean, and so too the showers outside.

They provide free lockers, but we had to pay a $500 deposit which we got back when we returned the keys.

Garden view

The beach is spacious despite so many umbrellas and chairs. It is safe for nonswimmers once they don’t pass the buoy. I enjoyed walking in the water because it did feel muddy or ruff as I had experienced at other beaches. They put great effort into maintaining the beach.

We had a great time at the pool, thats where we spent a significant amount of time. But what kept us there was the music. The DJ was good; he kept patrons at the pool moving despite the age difference. Everyone had a grand time, even the most conservative persons among us.

Beach Bar & Pool

After waiting for almost an hour in line standing in the midday sun, we finally got an opportunity to experience the water. With lifevest on, we swam about 50 meters out to the waterpark.

Not being a strong swimmer was a challenge, so I wouldn’t recommend it to people who cannot swim.

I didn’t expect the obstacle course to be so much fun would have done it multiple times if I could. However, completing parts of the course takes some fitness and strength.

On our visit, they were understaffed, so I was concerned about the safety of patrons using the water park. Even though they had lifevest, it could be challenging for staff if multiple patrons got into difficulties because there were only two of the twenty-plus people.

Apart from the swimming pool, the water park is where we had the most fun.

Catamaran docking

Puerto Seco beach is one of the best beaches on the island, its facilities are of the best standard, and the entry price is reasonable. However, they offer luxury services at a higher price.

Their large pool, clean beach, and spacious environment make it perfect for families or groups thats want to spend some time having fun.

Here is a link to book this attraction.
